Located in the heart of Hurstbourne Tarrant, The Great Decoy is a classic English country pub with rooms, surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Test Valley.
During the Second World War, the site of the pub and the surrounding countryside was used by the British Army as part of a network of decoy sites designed to mislead enemy aircraft by drawing bombing raids away from strategic targets. People from different backgrounds, occupations, and fortune came together to create something for common good.
Pubs – and particularly rural pubs – bring people together in much the same way. They are a cure for loneliness, a hub for connection, and a place for the well-being of anyone who chooses to use them.
The new name pays homage to this lesser-known chapter of local history, and celebrates courage, strength, and unity at a time of adversity.

Thoughtfully designed, each room is individually decorated with layered fabrics, eclectic artwork and antique furniture chosen to create spaces that feel both refined and deeply restful.
We make the most of seasonal British produce, with an emphasis on working with excellent local suppliers in Hampshire and the surrounding counties. The menu features a mix of Chickpea favourites, including our famous handmade pies, seasonal specials, generous Sunday roasts and nole pizza.
